The PhD Programme in Historical, Geographical, Anthropological Studies.

The DISSGeA Dpt (University of Padua), the DSU and DSLCC Dpts (University of Ca’ Foscari Venice) invite excellent students to apply to their joint PhD Program in Historical, Geographic, Anthropological Studies (four years, full-time).

15 scholarships will be offered to the best applicants.

The program offers 15 Ph.D. positions with full annual scholarship of 15,350 Euros.

The PhD School provides dedicated research budget. PhD candidates are expected to spend at least one term visiting a leading research Institution or University in their second or third year. The period abroad is funded through a 50% increase in the monthly scholarship. The fund covers all research activities, including participation at conferences, the acquisition of datasets and/or software, and visiting periods abroad.

The PhD program in Historical, Geographic, Anthropological Studies is a 4-year advanced research program structured in three curricula:

- Historical Studies
- Geographic Studies
- Anthropological Studies

The PhD Program promotes the development of original and innovative research, enhancing a transdisciplinary approach. PhD candidates are expected to submit a written dissertation four years from the date of admission. They will be supported by a supervisor or supervisors who will support develop the process of research and writing. PhD candidates are also expected to follow teaching activities during the first three years of the Program. The PhD degree will be awarded jointly by the Rectors of the University of Padua and of the University of Ca’ Foscari Venice on the basis of successful completion of an individual research thesis and an oral final examination.

This Phd programme aims to enhance and coordinate the skills and areas of research developed in the three Universities of Padova, Ca’Foscari University of Venice and Verona.

It is among the first regional PhD programme in Historical, Geographical, Anthropological studies in Italy. Each candidate who is successful in the final examination will be awarded the title of Doctor of Research, and will receive a diploma awarded jointly by the Rectors of the three Universities.

The PhD Programme is structured in three curricula, as follows:

  • Historical Studies
  • Geographical Studies
  • Historical- Religious Studies and Antropology

Can have access to the PhD Programme candidates who win a PhD grant on the basis of a state public competition.

Most available positions are supported by scholarships from the three University partners. The basic available number of scholarships is 12.

Special additional grants for non-Italian students (awarded on the basis of qualifications only) are awarded by the CARIPARO Foundation. These grants include all University and Department fees, full board at the University accommodation and provide an additional personal scholarship of 15,343 € for year for a total of 3 years. Scholarships are awarded every year on the basis of qualifications only and an oral interview on Skype. The annual scholarship amounts to around 15,343 €. For periods of study abroad (up to 18 months in the three years) the scholarship value is increased by 50%. During the 2nd and  3rd year each candidate has a budget of 1.500 € to fund his own research. In addition, the course can contribute to additional accommodation and travel costs in Italy and abroad.
